Sallie Krawcheck is a woman of great ambition - ‘great’, in that she has reached incredible achievements throughout her career, and also in how she has led herself with integrity, serving as an icon to all of how to succeed, while also taking the world in a stronger direction.
Today, Sallie is known as the owner and Chair of the Ellevate Network - a global network for professional women committed to fostering gender equality in the workplace - as well as the CEO and co-founder of Ellevest, an online financial advisor specifically for women investors. She is also a vocal and respected proponent of Wall Street reform.
Beginning her career as an equity analyst, Sallie quickly rose through the ranks at the research firm, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., eventually earning her seat as CEO. It was in this role that she was named “The Last Honest Analyst” by Fortune magazine for her commitment to being impartial, honest and rational in her advice.
Although respected for her stance and leadership, Sallie also received criticism for not supporting popular trends and ideas when she believed them to be ill-advised. That criticism did not hold her back or change her course. She remained unwavering in her integrity and ambition, even being named Fortune’s Most Influential Person Under 40 (and dubbed “Ms. Clean”) in 2003 at the age of 38.
Sallie continued to make impressive waves in the financial industry, moving on to become CEO of Citigroup’s Smith Barney unit, then taking the reins to head up the struggling Merrill Lynch division of Bank of America after it’s 2009 acquisition. She led that division to $3.1 billion in profit in just two years as president.
In 2013, Sallie made the decision to turn her unwavering ambition and integrity in finance towards recreating the industry for women and working to build gender equality in the workplace. Realizing that the world of investing was designed by men and for men, Sallie acquired 85 Broads Unlimited LLC, a network of high achieving professional women. That network now runs as the Ellevate Network, which works to lift up ambitious women, bringing their voices, expertise and ideas into the spotlight, to create a better and stronger economic world for everyone - both men and women.
She also co-founded Ellevest as part of her “life’s mission to unleash women’s financial power and get them invested in their biggest goals”. Through Ellevest, Sallie is guiding fellow ambitious women to lift themselves up and take control of their own financial power and goals.
We celebrate Sallie Krawcheck as a woman of ambition and integrity, and as a true asset to the global community, using her impressive brain to create a stronger world in which everyone can thrive.
